Prime Minister criticizes Peter Dutton’s ‘extraordinary abandonment’ of climate policy
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has slammed Opposition Leader Peter Dutton’s “extraordinary abandonment” of “any pretense of having a climate policy”, Sky News has reported. “His nuclear fantasy will result in higher power prices and a more unstable energy grid and rising emissions,” he said. “No 2030 target means walking out of the Paris Agreement which is very clear… If you walk out of the Paris Agreement, you’re left standing with Libya, Yemen and Iran.”
Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister Patrick Gorman says Mr Dutton has “no credibility” in climate policy. “But also that they’re just not doing the hard work that an Opposition should do.” Mr Dutton has confirmed he will not take a 2030 climate target to the next election, going on to claim he would finalise it in government.

Prime Minister denounces graffiti attack on US consulate
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned the vandalism of the U.S. consulate in Sydney after the building was defaced in what seemed to be a pro-Palestinian protest, Reuters reported. The building was attacked and sprayed with paint by a person carrying a small sledgehammer at around 3 a.m. local time on Monday. A spokesperson for the U.S. consulate confirmed the building had been damaged but said staff and operations were unaffected.
“I would just say that people should have respectful political debate and discourse. Measures such as painting the U.S. Consulate do nothing to advance the cause of those who have committed what is, of course, a crime to damage property,” Mr Albanese said.

Chinese premier to visit Australia
China’s Premier Li Qiang will visit Australia later this week, officials said Tuesday, in a further indication that strained bilateral relations are improving, ABC News reported. Li’s visit will extend from Saturday to Tuesday and will be the first by a Chinese premier to Australia since 2017. Prime Minister Albanese and Li will hold an annual leaders’ meeting at Parliament House in the Australian capital Canberra during the visit. Li’s visit follows Albanese’s visit to Beijing in November last year, where leaders agreed to resume key bilateral dialogues and to further several areas of cooperation.

Housing market remains strong despite unseasonably high prices
REA Group senior economist Paul Ryan said continued price growth in the housing market is giving buyers and sellers more confidence, Sky News reported. Mr Ryan noted Melbourne and Sydney have been experiencing higher market activity, with Sydney in particular seeing higher price growth than previously expected. “Activity is unseasonably strong. We have got 2,800 auctions scheduled again next weekend,” he said. “Normally we see a big slowdown. June and July are the slowest months of the year traditionally but we just haven’t seen that big slowdown after Easter this year.”
