Australia’s first female Indigenous SC judge to be appointed
The first Indigenous female Supreme Court judge will be appointed in Canberra on Wednesday when Kamilaroi woman Louise Taylor is announced as the ACT’s sixth judge, ABC News has reported. It is the second time she has made history after she was appointed as the ACT’s first Indigenous magistrate in 2018. Magistrate Taylor has had a long involvement with the local legal scene as a senior prosecutor and a Legal Aid officer. The ACT government will announce her appointment on Wednesday, with a swearing-in expected within weeks.

China Trade Curbs Had Little Effect on Australia’s GDP
Australia’s economy suffered limited damage from punitive trade actions by China, with just a reduction of 0.009 per cent in gross domestic product. Australia’s Productivity Commission said Australia’s exports had been “resilient” in the face of the trade actions, with barley and coal in particular rapidly finding new markets. In April, the Chinese government announced it would hold a review into its tariffs on Australian barley, in return for which Canberra suspended its case against Beijing in the World Trade Organization. China’s review is still ongoing, Bloomberg reported.
