Qatar Airways denied extra capacity in Australia
Airports say that denying Qatar Airways extra capacity into Australia will have a “bad outcome” for tourism and travellers. The Middle Eastern airline was seeking to operate an extra 21 flights a week, amounting to one additional flight a day into Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. The application made last year attracted opposition from Qantas, and more recently a group of women subjected to invasive physical searches at Hamad International Airport. The Australian Airports Association said the government’s decision was a “bad outcome for tourism and sent a bad signal to international carriers wanting to fly in and out of Australia”, The Australian has reported.

Japan to fire an advanced ship-killing missile on Australia’s shores
Japan will conduct a live fire demonstration of its Type 12 surface-to-ship missile during Exercise Talisman Sabre 2023. The missile is a truck-mounted weapon with a range of about 200km. The missile is a type 12 Surface-to-Ship missile (SSM) which will be fired at a weapons range in Jervis Bay, south of Sydney. TikTok may face legal penalty in Australia
TikTok is likely to face a legal penalty in Australia following its failure to produce documents before a Senate committee investigating foreign interference through social media, The Anadolu Agency has reported. The committee earlier asked TikTok to submit answers to 15 questions related to the application data collection process and access of Chinese engineers to Australian users’ data until July 14. The committee said any person refusing a lawful order of the Senate committee could face contempt and be either fined or jailed for up to six months.
