Voice to Parliament ‘Yes’ campaign is struggling
SkyNews reported that The Australian’s associate editor Graham Lloyd said that the Voice to Parliament’s Yes campaign is not “dead” but it is “certainly struggling”. “Linda Burney had an opportunity this week to put things back on track and animate it, I think you can say she’s identified the areas where there may be a common concern,” he said, adding “I don’t think she’s really laid out why what’s being put forward is necessarily the answer to solve it.”

Australia’s Trade Minister Don Farrell is travelling to Brussels for talks with European Union counterparts aimed at reaching a free trade accord, Bloomberg has reported. Senator Farrell will engage in advance discussions on an agreement and meet the European Commissioner for Trade, Valdis Dombrovskis, as well as the EU Commissioner for Agriculture, Janusz Wojciechowski, according to a statement from the Australian government. The EU was Australia’s fourth-largest trade partner in 2022, accounting for $61.6 billion, or 8.4% of total trade.

More tourists to Gippsland as Victorian tourism hits high
VISITOR expenditure in Victoria has hit a record high of $35 billion annually, The Gippsland Times reported. The latest data showed visitor expenditure in Victoria for the year ending March 2023 surpassed the 2019 pre-COVID peak of $32.5 billion, hitting a record high of $35 billion and reaching the state government’s 2024 tourism target more than a year ahead of schedule. Victoria is leading the nation’s tourism recovery, attracting 22.1 per cent of Australia’s total visitor expenditure over the 12 months and making the largest market share gains in the country with a 2.9 percentage point growth.

Giant US pickup sales surges
At the midway point of 2023, no corner of the new vehicle market has grown its sales faster than ‘Pickups Over $100,000‘, which is up a whopping 65.4 per cent year-to-date. Australians have taken delivery of 5,724 of these behemoths this year, led overwhelmingly by the Ram 1500 range with 3,697 units YTD – for context that’s more than the Nissan Navara 4×4 (3, 474). Its arch nemesis is the Chevrolet Silverado, which has racked up 1,015 sales YTD, which for some context is more than double the haul managed by the Jeep Gladiator, Globe Echo has reported.
