Eminent Australians want government to work more to defuse US-China tensions
A group of fifty high-profile Australians, led by former Australian foreign affairs ministers Bob Carr and Gareth Evans, have called on the government to adopt “an activist middle power role” to avert the U.S.-China conflict, Voice of America reported. “Australia’s role is to plant the notion of greater collaboration and less adversarial talk in the relationship,” he said. “Taiwan, the most challenging diplomatic question here, provides a perfect opportunity for the diplomatic language being an alternative to a descent into conflict and argument that could give rise to war.”

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the US military action in the Middle East over the weekend has been proportionate. He also reinforced his support for a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine, CNBC has reported. US forces followed up strikes in Syria and Iraq with a new round of attacks against Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen last Saturday. The ongoing US strikes are supported by Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands, and New Zealand.

Keppel aims for Sydney tower
Singaporean group Keppel is poised to strike one of the year’s largest office deals as it targets purchasing a half interest in a Sydney skyscraper from a Mirvac-run fund that would value the tower at more than $700m. The stake in the building at 255 George St is being sold by the Mirvac Wholesale Office Fund, which the listed property company picked up out of the AMP Capital empire and it must meet redemptions from departing investors later this year. Real estate agencies Cushman & Wakefield and JLL are handling the offer, The Australian Business Review reported.

The not-for-profit agency carried on the Invictus Games spirit across the country and was in Townsville this weekend holding community sporting events. On Friday night the Jubilee Bowls Club in Mundingburra hosted festivities, and on Saturday pickleball (modified tennis) at Townsville Tennis brought the community together. Based in Sydney, Invictus Australia supports veterans and their families in the community.
