Labor potentially recruiting supporters of a ‘listed terrorist organization
Shadow Housing Minister Michael Sukkar says the Albanese government is potentially bringing Australia the supporters of a “listed terrorist organisation,” Sky News reported. Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has argued Prime Minister Albanese misled parliament by quoting selectively from the ABC’s interview with ASIO Director-General Mike Burgess last week in terms of security checks on the Palestinians who came here. “If you look at the Syria example as the most recent relevant comparison, we were bringing in people being persecuted by ISIS,” Mr Sukkar said. “Now, the sticking point here is that the government could be potentially bringing in supporters and sympathisers of the listed terrorist organisation we’re referring to.”

The Labor party “has not got its settings right” to address the cost of living crisis
Sky News has reported that Shadow Treasurer Angus Taylor has criticised the Albanese government for having its “foot on the accelerator” and not having its settings “right” to fix the cost of living crisis. “We shouldn’t be undermining the Reserve Bank,” Mr Taylor said. “The government hasn’t got its settings right. It’s got the foot on the accelerator at exactly the time that the Reserve Bank has got the foot on the brake, and that’s how you break the engine,” he said. “We’re seeing that with our economy right now.”

FTA advertising market to remain weak next year
Australia’s commercial television networks are being warned that the advertising market is set to remain dire until consumer confidence rebounds, The Australian has reported. Year on year, the FTA networks (Nine, Seven, and Ten) saw their advertising slump by 8.1 per cent in the 2024 financial year to $3.3 billion, with tough economic conditions and a continuing shift of viewers to streaming services contributing to the downturn. However, the FTA Broadcast Video on Demand services (7plus, 9 Now, and 10 Play) proved a welcome counterweight, with the sector’s advertising growing 12.7 per cent to $441.4 million in the prior financial year. UBS analyst Lucy Huang said that TV networks would likely remain challenging until business and consumer confidence improved over the next six to 12 months.
