Labour achieves once-in-a-century victory

The Albanese government has achieved a once-in-100-year victory in a by-election, capturing the Liberal heartland seat of Aston in eastern Melbourne, The Guardian has reported. Labor’s Mary Doyle won a two-party preferred swing of at least 6%, leading about 54 per cent to 46 per cent over the Liberals’ Roshena Campbell in the count on Saturday evening. Opposition leader, Peter Dutton, played down any implications for his leadership, arguing he had kept the party together and would “regather” before the next general election despite the setback.

Shell to build huge battery system in Australia

Shell, the British energy giant and one of Australia’s leading liquefied natural gas (LNG) producers, has inked a deal to produce a mammoth 200MW, 400MWH massive battery system in Australia, interesting engineering reported. Macquarie Asset Management and Green Investment Group partnered with Shell to build two massive batteries at the Rangebank business park in Cranbourne, south-eastern Melbourne. Big batteries will become more crucial as Australia moves away from coal-fired energy because of their capacity to store renewable energy when it is most plentiful and to release it when it is not sunny or windy.

Australia to Greece in only 4 hours?

A hypersonic aircraft is capable of reducing the flight time to four, from the usual 20 hours, the Greek City Times has reported. Swiss company Destinus has been testing hyper aircraft prototypes for several years now and reported successful test flights of its second Eiger prototype late last year. Last June, the company partnered with Spanish engine manufacturer ITP Aero to set up a hydrogen engine test centre. A grant from the Spanish government will finance the construction of a test facility near Madrid – where hydrogen engines “breathing” air will be tested.
