The Travelling Film Festival will return to Darwin, Katherine and Alice Springs next month with exclusive screenings of Golden Globe nominees and winners from prestigious events, including the Venice, Cannes, Berlin, and Sydney film festivals.
TFF manager Beatrix Brady said that every year the festival strives to present a selection of films that may otherwise go unseen by audiences, and aims to provide a unique experience that celebrates cinema.
“The breadth of stories in this year’s lineup runs the beautiful gamut of human experiences all over the world, from psychedelic-snail fueled Amazonian adventures to porridge competitions in Scotland,” Ms Brady said.
The festival will visit Darwin and Katherine at the end of mid-February and Alice Springs in late February and early March.
She said the festival kicks off with one of the highlight, Richard Linklater’s film Blue moon, which garnered a Golden Globe nomination and stars Ethan Hawke, and is set during the after-party for the opening night of Oklahoma!
Other international film festival winners to be screened include the Venice Film Festival winner, Father mother sister brother by Jim Jarmusch, as well as the Berlin Golden Bear winner, Dreams. Additionally, there’s a Cannes prize-winning film set against the vibrant backdrop of Lagos, titled My father’s shadow.
She said other standout films include No other choice, from acclaimed Korean director Park Chan-wook (known for Oldboy), a three-time Golden Globe nominee, and Sentimental value, which brings together the team behind The worst person in the world: director Joachim Trier and actress Renate Revise, alongside Stellan Skarsgård and Elle Fanning.
One of the top Australian hits of the year, The golden spurtle, will be featured. it is a documentary about the world porridge championships in Scotland. Director Constantine Costi will be present to showcase his film and engage with the audience, and offer porridge-making tips as well.
Ms Brady said other films include Urchin, which is the acclaimed directorial debut by United Kingdom actor Harris Dickinson, Deaf, a movie from Spain about a couple navigating parenthood with one deaf and one hearing partner, and Brazil’s Berlin Film Festival prize-winning The blue trail, which follows a woman’s wild escape down the Amazon River.
The festival will return to Darwin and Katherine from February 19 to 22, and Alice Springs from February 27 to March 2. The full program and tickets are now on sale at the festival website.
