Throb Nightclub shut down after building deemed unsafe, ‘threat to life’

Throb Nightclub has been shut down by the government after the building it’s located in was found not fit for occupancy and presenting a “threat to life” due to concerns about the structural safety of the premises, according to an emergency order issued by the NT’s director of building control.

The emergency order signed by Mark Meldrum was posted in the window of the building on Thursday after a site inspection last week discovered a number of fire safety hazards, non-compliances with the National Construction Code and “unauthorised building works” that included removal of walls that led to structural safety issues with the building.

  1. Land owners who are mates with the Government obviously had a big part in this, especially considering a number of NT Gov buildings are not up to code, and are still in use, whilst everyone involved in those shambles was let off the hook , cos they are all mates with NT Labor and give and receive kickbacks!

    • Dont want to rain on anyone’s parade but am quite certain, based on the other tennants remarks, the landlord said from the beginning, the rent is cheap, and we will demolish and build on the site one day, when we have time.
I agree a lot of the dwellings in the NT are not up to code!

  2. Shame…Tim & Mark have invested so much into creating the gay/lesbian footprint in Darwin. Hope it all works out for them and the local rainbow community.
