Three people involved in assaults on two security guards, as well as pulling an edged weapon on a third guard, and throwing an edged weapon at a fourth, are on the run after the attacks at a Darwin Shopping Centre on Friday afternoon, NT Police said while declaring the offenders were no longer a danger to the public at the shopping centre.
Detective Senior Sergeant Karl Day said in a statement on Friday that just before 1pm police responded to reports that three men, and one woman, were creating a disturbance in an unspecified shopping centre food court.
He said that when the group were approached by security staff, police allege one of the offenders threatened a guard with an edged weapon.
Another security guard allegedly had another edged weapon thrown at him, and another was assaulted with a chair, police said, while another was assaulted at a bottle shop before the group stole alcohol.
Snr Sgt Day said said none of the victims’ injuries required treatment.
He said a 19-year-old man was arrested but did not specify what he was alleged to have done, and what the other three alleged offenders had done.
“The offenders are no longer a danger to the public at the shopping centre,” Snr Sgt Day said.
Police are asking anyone with information on the assaults or the offenders to call them on 131 444.
