Three females, one as young as 14, have been arrested for allegedly assaulting and robbing a 101-year-old man in a mobility scooter on Mitchell Street last night, NT Police said.

The elderly man was allegedly held by the females around 9:30pm, who removed his wallet and keys before fleeing the area.

The victim suffered cuts to his arms in the assault and was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment, police said.

All three girls, aged 14, 15, and 19, were located later by police CCTV operators at a location near the scene of the crime and arrested. They were later charged on Wednesday with aggravated robbery and depriving a person of personal liberty, police said.

“This was a disgraceful attack on a vulnerable member of our society and the actions of these offenders was abhorrent,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Trent Abbott.

“Thankfully the victim is expected to make a full recovery.

“I would also like to commend our vigilant CCTV operators and attending officers for their swift action to respond and apprehend the offenders nearby.”

Serious crime detectives are continuing their investigation. Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact police on 131 444, with reference number NTP2500023360.
