Two men and a teen have been arrested and charged for allegedly seriously assaulting a man with a weapon in an Alice Springs street in the middle of the day last week that sent the victim to hospital with head injuries, NT Police said.
A 43-year-old man was allegedly assaulted by the trio with a “blunt weapon” last Friday afternoon, around 12:30pm on Todd Street.
Police had asked for the public’s help in locating the suspects, who they said had fled the scene after the assault in a blue sedan.
On Monday, police said they had arrested three males, aged 59, 41 and 15 in relation to the serious assault at an unidentified location.
The men were both charged with unlawfully causing serious harm, engaging in violent conduct and being armed with an “offensive weapon” and were scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
The 15-year-old was arrested and charged with unlawfully causing serious harm and engaging in violent conduct, but was bailed to attend court at a later date.
The 41-year-old man was also charged with assaulting a police officer “following an incident on Friday afternoon in which it is alleged the man assaulted a police officer at the Alice Springs Police Station”, police said in a statement.
The victim had suffered head and upper body injuries and had been taken to Alice Springs hospital. Police did not provide an update on his condition.
