“Public Employment Minister excludes OCPE from discussions with firefighters” would not have been a very compelling headline with the way things are going these days, but it is the real story here.
Leaving the parties out of it for a minute… what the hell is going on? Both Kirby and Telfer spent a big chunk of their lives in the union movement before getting their hands on the levers up here (in the ETU and CPSU respectively) and I dare say they wouldn’t have made it to where they are without union support. I thought the whole idea with this lot was that the workers united could never be defeated.
As a union member, you’d have to be asking yourself what the point is in catapulting these types into positions of power (much as the MUA has now done for Thomas Mayo) if they bob aimlessly in the sea of political reality once they get there.
Fancy paying $600-1000 bucks a year to be a lilypad for political aspirants.
