Two teens and two other youths were arrested at Casuarina Shopping Centre on Monday after allegedly using a stolen credit card to go on a shopping spree that saw “a large quantity of clothing and accessories” purchased from four different stores, NT Police said.
Police said they were contacted by shopping centre security around noon “regarding suspicious activity from a group within the centre”.
Members of Strike Force Trident attended and located the group with the clothing and accessories “and a credit card they could not account for”, police said.
The purchased goods were seized by police.
A 16-year-old and a 19-year-old were arrested and taken to the Palmerston Watch House where they were later charged with five counts each of obtaining a benefit and one count each for stealing.
Police said two other youths will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.
“Police urge Territorians to be vigilant with their bank accounts and cards,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland.
“If you notice any suspicious bank account activity, or have recently lost your card, please contact your bank immediately.”
