A 14-year-old boy has been charged over the death of a 54-year-old male in the Victoria Daly Region following an alleged hit-and-run.

The boy was granted bail to appear in court on an unspecified date, according to the NT Police.

NT Police said they were called to a remote community in the region at an unspecified time on Saturday after the 54-year-old man was found on a road. The victim had suffered injuries consistent with a motor vehicle impact, police said.

Police did not say how they identified and caught the boy following the hit-and-run.

It remains unclear if the boy was under the influence when the incident happened or how he acquired the vehicle.

It was also not disclosed why the boy would be granted bail and whose care he is currently under.

His charges include one count each of driving a vehicle causing death, hit-and-run causing death, driving unlicensed, and driving an unregistered motor vehicle.
