A 16-year-old who allegedly stole a taxi and threatened the driver with a knife in Stuart Park has been arrested, while NT Police are calling on the public to provide them with more information about the aggravated robbery.

Police said the teen entered a taxi on Knuckey Street around 11pm before allegedly threatening the driver with a knife on Dinah Beach Road a short time later, forcing the driver to abandon the vehicle with the teen driving off in the taxi.

The vehicle was later seen “being driven dangerously”, police said, at the intersection of Dick Ward Dr and Fitzer Dr before being abandoned on McMillans Rd. It was not disclosed if police had observed the vehicle or if a pursuit occurred.

The youth was arrested on Monday morning somewhere. Police said he is expected to be charged with aggravated robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and serious breach of bail.

“This was a traumatic experience for the driver of the taxi and it was incredibly lucky no one was injured,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Collier.

“Anyone who has information on these incidents, especially if you have dash cam footage, is urged to make contact on 131 444. Please quote reference 10069544.”
