Taxi driver robbed at knifepoint in Coconut Grove

NT Police are searching for a man who allegedly robbed a Darwin taxi driver after threatening him with a knife in the northern suburbs overnight.

Police said the driver had arrived at an undisclosed location on Progress Drive in Coconut Grover around midnight when he was approached by an unknown man.

The man then allegedly threatened the driver with the knife “before stealing a small quantity of cash and fleeing the scene”.

Surprisingly, police called it a knife and not an “edged weapon”, their preferred jargon.

Police said nobody was inured during the alleged aggravated robbery.

They did not provide a description of the suspect.

“Detectives from Serious Crime are investigating and are urging anyone with information, particularly if you have CCTV in the area that captures the incident or suspicious behaviour, to make contact on 131 444. Please quote reference 10429307,” police said in a statement.

“You can also report anonymously on Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”

  1. New laws on knife crime don’t seem to be having much effect.
