A man who threatened a worker with a syringe after stealing “a quantity of alcohol” from a Cavenagh Street business on Sunday afternoon has been arrested and charged with aggravated robbery, NT Police said.

Police allege the 33-year-old man entered the business at 4pm and stole the grog before being confronted by an employee. The man then allegedly threatened the female employee with a syringe before fleeing the scene.

He was arrested a short time later at the corner of Mitchell and Peel Streets where police found three intravenous syringes on him.

“This was a confronting incident for the employee and police commend her for immediately contacting police, allowing for a quick arrest,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Karl Day.

“Detectives from Serious Crime have since charged him with one count of aggravated robbery. He was bailed to appear in Darwin Local Court today.”
