Five male teens as young as 13-years old and a woman have been arrested over break-ins and the theft of three vehicles in Darwin overnight, while an unspecified number of offenders who stole at least three other vehicles are still on the run, NT Police said.
Police director of communications Mark Wilton said in a statement that an unspecified times late on Tuesday evening and into early Wednesday morning, police received reports of an unspecified number of business and homes in Fannie Bay, East Arm and Darwin city being broken into.
He said at least six vehicles were stolen, with the offenders attempting to fuel up three of them at the Berry Springs service station.
Police used tyre spikes just outside Adelaide River to stop the three vehicles, and five males, aged between 13 and 17, and a woman, were arrested at the scene.
Mr Wilton said they remained in custody and are expected to be charged later on Wednesday but police believed the other vehicles were driven out of the Darwin area and the agency was still trying to track the offenders down.
Police are asking anyone with information to call them on 131 444 (quote reference 21424888).

Do we still have a legal system in the NT to deal with these criminals?
