UPDATED: A 15-year-old is in police custody and has been charged after allegedly stabbing another teen at the Royal Darwin Show on Saturday night in front of dozens of show-goers, with the victim rushed to hospital in a “serious condition”, NT Police said.

The incident occurred around 8:20pm, with police receiving reports that a 15-year-old male had stabbed another 15-year-old male with a “knife” at the showgrounds “after an altercation”.

The offender fled the scene, but was later apprehended by police. Details of the arrest were not available late Saturday night, but on Sunday police said the male was arrested at a residence in Palmerston.

Witnesses of the stabbing reported seeing “blood everywhere” and people screaming and crying, with reports the stabbing occurred near a line for one of the rides.

Police issued an update Sunday afternoon, stating the 15-year-old male had been charged with recklessly endangering life and possessing, carrying, using a controlled weapon.

“Police and St John Ambulance attended, and the victim was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital in a serious condition,” the original Saturday statement from police said.

Organisers of the show claimed on social media on Friday that they had implemented “enhanced security measures” this weekend at entry gates, including bag searches and “security wanding”.

Police said on Sunday that the victim remains in RDH in a “stable condition”.

The alleged attacker was still in custody on Sunday, “awaiting a bail review”, police said.

“Police are still urging anyone with information to make contact on 131 444 and quote reference P25199834,” the Sunday statement said.

  2. Being in denial . . . a most dangerous behaviour possible. Neither ALP or CLP politicians capable of managing, alleviating current territory future. At every level. Demand Federal Intervention.

    • The primary problem we territorians now have is competency. Across the board.

  3. As a Territory business that’s been here since 1978, I’ve had enough of the CLP’s hollow posturing on youth crime.

The stabbing at the Royal Darwin Show was terrifying — but instead of real solutions, we get finger-pointing, political slogans, and knee-jerk legislation.

Crime didn’t start yesterday. Years of underinvestment in youth services, prevention, and community programs have led us here — and the CLP is just rehashing the same failed “tough on crime” spin.

Our communities deserve better. We need leadership, not more grandstanding.

  4. Talking sense now, ‘Peter Cavanagh’. Bravo.
