Police have suppressed the sexual assault of a seven-year-old child in Tennant Creek and refused to say if the offender has been arrested, breaching their own transparency guidelines, an independent MLA has said.
The child sex assault appears to be the latest example of the suppression of serious sexual assaults by the NT Police, with the NT Independent having previously revealed the suppression, or delayed public release, of information about alleged rapes and sexual assaults, including of children.
