A 19-year-old female was allegedly sexually assaulted in the bathroom of an Alice Springs fast-food restaurant around 6:30am Saturday morning, NT Police said, following two reports of domestic violence incidents over the weekend across the NT, including a stabbing.

Police said the sexual assault occurred at the fast-food restaurant on the corner of Parsons Street and Railway Terrace around 6:30am, when the victim notified staff of the attack, who called police.

NT Police provided no description of the offender or any other details about the incident.

“Investigations are ongoing to locate the alleged offender and determine the circumstances of the incident,” police media director Mark Wilton said in a statement on Saturday morning.

“Police are calling for any witnesses within the area at the time, who may have information that can assist police inter enquiries, to make contact on 131 444.” No case number was provided.

Meanwhile, a 26-year-old male who was out on bail has been charged after allegedly strangling and punching a 24-year-old female in a vehicle stopped at traffic lights at the corner of Stott Terrace and the Stuart Highway on Friday morning around 8am.

Police said the male, who was known to the woman, took the victim’s phone from her after taking her to his residence following the incident, “so that she could not seek assistance”.

The victim was able to locate the phone “hours later” and call police for help, however the man fled the scene when police arrived.

He was later arrested “after a short foot pursuit”, police said.

The woman was taken to Alice Springs Hospital where she was treated for facial injuries.

The male was charged with a series of offences including unlawfully causing serious harm; choking, strangling or suffocating; theft; and breach of bail.

He was remanded to appear in court on Monday.

Another alleged domestic violence incident occurred on Friday night in Katherine, when a 21-year-old female allegedly stabbed a 41-year-old man several times in the shoulder around 7:45pm.

The male was first transported to Katherine Regional Hospital, but later taken to Darwin in a serious but stable condition, police said.

Investigations into the incident are continuing, police said, but provided no further details.

If you or someone you know are experiencing difficulties due to domestic violence, support services are available, including but not limited to, 1800RESPECT (1800737732) or Lifeline at 131 114.

  1. At what point in-time may the NT Govt acknowledge the evolving demand from citizens to access Registered Hand-Gun(s). As protection both at home and – or when required out in public, community spaces? Heaven forbid. But something or someone of official status needs to accept responsibility? No sane Australian would want a further acceleration of American COMMUNITY BEHAVIOURS.

  2. No chance. Currently law abiding gun owners including farmers are being targeted by new police rules to prohibit firearms. Its getting harder for law abiding people to do as they have always done. Meanwhile the crims are doing what they have always done.
