  1. “criticised by environmental and Indigenous groups who say the government is overstepping their mandate “. Very predictable comments by the very groups that are responsible for much of the red tape and waste. It’s also an inaccurate comment. Lia has been very clear about her intent to remove the obstacles that have stymied development in the NT, and that the majority of Territorians did indeed give her a mandate to do exactly what is needed to remove special interest groups and their pedestals of self-interest from interrupting future development in the NT. Good on you Lia.

    • Agree Jason Riley wholeheartedly.

    • Maybe you should google ‘Cancer Alley’ in Louisiana and see for yourself what it looks like when corporations get free reign to do as they please.
Foreign multinationals do not care about the Northern Territory or Territorians, they care about corporate profits for shareholders, none of whom live here.
They lobby politicians, promising them lucrative positions in their post political life.
It’s the fully legal corruption of our political system.
If Territorians knew exactly what was in store for them they would never have voted the CLP in.

      • Well articulated Rowan Hayward. This proposal will give free rein for developers and others to bulldoze their way into commercial decisions and trash our democratic processes.

No respect for the wishes of traditional owners and stakeholders regarding the potential environmental plundering that will result.

It’s very much about money…both major political parties have sold out to the mining sector. Shame on them all.

  2. Well done Lia, keep up the good work. Enough of these minority self serving self interest groups. They have inhibited the Territory’s economic well being for the last 8 years. These minority groups are only concerned about their own vested interests, whereas you are concerned about the economic well being and economic sustainability of the whole of the NT.

  3. I personally have plenty of misgivings, but I must agree that this is exactly what she promised before the election, so she does indeed have a mandate. This is what we collectively voted for, even if it wasn’t my vote.

  4. The government funded activists in the environment centre would say nothing if it was land clearing for solar or wind projects. The federal government set a precedent by preventing objections to land clearing for wind turbines and prevented appeals against their chosen locations.

    • That’s because the burning of fossil fuels is in the process of rendering our planet unliveable for humans.
We need to transition to renewables before we hit the impending tipping point so that our children can have a hope for their future.
I notice that this sudden concern for clearing land never extends to the massive deforestation happening in Australia for export farming for cattle, but the minuscule amount That’s cleared for the renewables needed to save our children’s future is unacceptable.

    • I would rather listen to the analysis by (partially) government funded environmental protection groups than the heavily subsidised (ie, partially government funded) gas companies coming here from Texas etc, rorting our idiotic system of giving them our natural resources for free then claiming that the ‘economic activity’ is worth destroying our unique land, waters, climate and – ahem – lifestyle.

  5. Don’t worry about good farming land cleared and going under solar pads or huge scars over hills for wind towers, not squeak to be heard.
This government has done more in eight weeks than the previous lot in eight years, only time will tell if spending money and sitting on one’s hands is better for the country than getting in and having a go.

  7. It’s not hard to agree with most of the comments above. Keep moving forward and if you make a mistake fix it and move on.
