Treasurer Eva Lawler has confirmed the secret taxpayer-funded payout to former police commissioner Jamie Chalker after his botched sacking will affect the NT Police bottom line, with the undisclosed sum coming out of the police budget.

Ms Lawler was fronting Budget Estimates hearings on Wednesday morning when she was asked about the secret payout to Mr Chalker by Opposition CLP Leader Lia Finocchiaro, including how much taxpayers paid the deeply unpopular former commissioner.
