Savage knife attack on woman in Tennant Creek

A woman who was stabbed approximately seven times in her chest and arms by her allegedly intoxicated partner in Tennant Creek overnight remains in hospital, the NT Independent understands.

The incident, that occurred around 2am, was first reported on the Action for Alice Facebook page and following questions to the NT Police media unit by the NT Independent, the police issued a statement on Wednesday afternoon confirming the horrific attack.

The 31-year-old male allegedly stabbed his 29-year-old female partner repeatedly with a knife, police said, at a residence at Kargaru Camp in Tennant Creek.

“The victim received a number of lacerations to her chest and arms and was conveyed to Tennant Creek Hospital in a serious condition,” police said in a statement.

The offender fled the scene but was arrested around 7am in the same area, police said.

The 31-year-old man has been charged in relation to the domestic violence attack with one count each of recklessly endangering life, unlawfully causing serious harm and possessing/carrying/using a controlled weapon at night.

“Investigations remain ongoing and the victim remains in hospital receiving treatment,” police media director Maggie McKeown said.
