A road rage argument between two motorists over allegations of cutting off a vehicle erupted into a physical assault, after the driver of one vehicle sent another driver to hospital with “significant injuries” to his face, NT Police said.

Police allege that shortly before 5:30pm on Wednesday, a white Nissan Navara and a white Ford Ranger ute were both stopped at a light inbound on McMillans Road in Jingili when one driver exited his vehicle to approach the other driver “accusing him of cutting him off and hitting his vehicle”.

“The man has then allegedly assaulted the victim through the window before returning to his vehicle and driving off,” police media manager Rob Cross said in a statement.

“A 59-year-old man was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital with significant injuries to his face.”

Police later located the alleged 19-year-old offender in Rosebery where he was arrested without incident.

He was later charged with unlawfully causing serious harm and was expected to appear in the local court on Thursday.
