EXCLUSIVE: A damning review into St John Ambulance NT’s treatment of patients has found multiple failures and poor decisions resulted in harm to patients and significant risk to staff, with a near complete breakdown in trust between hospital emergency department staff and the Territory’s ambulance service provider.
The report also found that while there were serious concerns raised about processes that may have resulted in the deaths of patients, it was impossible to determine the veracity of those claims, but called for an immediate end to St John Ambulance using police to transport sick Aboriginal people in police vehicles instead of ambulances.
