Prisoners will be used to pick up rubbish, and do grounds and drain maintenance in Darwin under a five-year agreement struck with the Fyles Government, Darwin Council said.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said in a statement the program would use low-risk, open-security rated inmates from Holtze prison who would also removal debris following the letting off of fireworks on Territory Day on Saturday.
