Nightcliff primary school was broken into over night, NT Police said, with preschool and transition students not being able to go to school today due to the damage.

NT Police Superintendent Jamie O’Brien told Mix 104.9 radio about 11am Wednesday police were on the scene evaluating the damage.

“They’ll be conducting forensics examinations and and looking for other evidence to point to who has been involved in this. But at this stage, we haven’t got a update on what kind of damage and how much. That’ll be coming out later today,” he said.

Opposition education spokeswoman Jo Hersey said in a statement some parents received a text saying they could not bring their preschool and transition students to school due to the damage.

She said it followed break-ins at St Joseph’s Catholic School and Katherine East Childcare in Katherine over the weekend.
