Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price’s calls for a federal inquiry into the effectiveness of Indigenous land councils have been criticised by Labor and the Central Land Council as a waste of time and a “political stunt”.
Senator Price introduced a motion to refer land councils and similar organisations to the Finance and Public Administration References Committee on Wednesday in the Senate, which was backed by SA Senator Kerrynne Liddle, and supported by Victoria Senator Lidia Thorpe.
