The NT Police Association has backed Commissioner Michael Murphy after he failed to investigate racist material last year and lied to the public about it, with the union’s boss saying Mr Murphy has done “everything to rectify the situation”, but was unable to point to one instance in which the NTPA has publicly criticised the Commissioner specifically for any issue.
The union’s backing of Mr Murphy has irked many rank-and-file members with some indicating they would have been fired outright if they had engaged in the same conduct Mr Murphy engaged in.
The Police Union is a toothless tiger. It runs the occasional member survey that shows that police aren’t happy but that’s about it.
