Suspended Barkly Regional Council Mayor Jeffrey McLaughlin is still being investigated by police for sitting on a child during a claimed “citizen’s arrest”, more than five months after it happened, and three months after a man who was threatening the same boy was charged with aggravated assault.
The ABC reported that Mr McLaughlin said he and his family had moved interstate for their safety and would be responding to a government-ordered investigation into the running of the Barkly Regional Council that was a legislative necessity once the council was suspended last October amid administrative turmoil.
