Police shut down Alice Springs CBD for second time this month, provide residents no details

For the second time in two weeks, NT Police have warned Alice Springs residents not to enter the CBD, or to leave if they were already there, with sources saying it was due to stolen utes being driven through the centre of town.
An alert was posted on the NT Police southern region Facebook page about 3am with police stating there was “active offending”, but gave no detail of what was happening.
About an hour later, police said they had “resolved the active offending” but still gave the public no information as to what caused a shut down of the CBD, which police also shut down on November 9.
They have not said if any alleged offenders have been caught, and have also not issued a press release about why they took the extraordinary step to close the CBD.
The only clue they gave was stating in the second Facebook post the traffic lights were out at the intersection of Wills Terrace and Stuart Highway, at the north end of the CBD.
Instead they later they issued a press release saying the Police College continued to receive new recruits, with three new police squads commencing their training last week.
One source said the CBD was closed down because two LandCruiser utes had been stolen from a business in Kidman St in Ciccone to the west of the CBD, but said they had no more information.
The NT Independent has put questions to NT Police about what happened. NT Police have never responded to NT Independent questions.
In the shut down on Tuesday two weeks ago NT Police were forced to warn the public to avoid the CBD as youths tried to ram police cars in stolen vehicles during an out-of-control crime rampage that has the community calling for the government to immediately regain control of the streets by any means necessary.
Police said the situation was finally brought under control after police deployed drones, dogs and tyre spikes to stop one of the vehicles used in the rampage, arresting five kids aged between 11 and 13.
