NT Police are seeking the public’s help to identify the criminals allegedly involved in breaking into a “government premises” in Alice Springs and stealing a white Mercedes Benz Sprinter that was then used in a crime spree throughout the night.
Police said the government premises on McDonald Street was broken into sometime between 5pm and 1am where intruders stole a “number of small items”, including car keys to the Mercedes Benz Sprinter van, causing damage to an exit gate at the building.
The vehicle was then seen at 2:30am being used in an attempted unlawful entry at a business on Todd Street and again at 4am, attempting to break in to another business on Hearne Place.
The van was recovered by Strike Force Viper officers abandoned on Sadadeen Road.
“Investigations remain ongoing,” said Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Robert Kent.
“Police are urging anyone who witnessed the stolen Mercedes last night, especially if you have dash-cam footage, to make contact on 131 444. You can also make an anonymous report through CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestoppersnt.com.au.”
