NT Police are searching for a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in her 20s early Sunday morning on a street in Alice Springs, before stealing the woman’s handbag and fleeing the scene.

Police said the incident occurred around 4:30am along Larapinta Drive in Araluen.

They attended to the report and established a crime scene, while the woman was taken to hospital by St John Ambulance for treatment for her injuries.

Police did not provide any description of the suspect, who they said was unknown to the woman.

“The offender remains outstanding at this time and investigations are ongoing,” police media director Mark Wilton said in a statement on Sunday afternoon.

“Police urge anyone with information, including CCTV or dash cam footage of Larapinta Drive between Zeil Steet and Lyndavale Drive between 2am – 3am [Sunday] morning to contact police on 131 444. Please quote reference P25338047.
