Two 13-year-olds have been arrested for their alleged role in a Palmerston service station robbery on Sunday afternoon, while police continue to search for a nine-year-old who allegedly threatened an employee with a pair of scissors and made off with “a quantity of cigarettes”, NT Police said.

Five youths, aged between nine and 13, allegedly robbed the Shell store at the intersection of Yarrawonga Road and Roystonea Ave around 3pm Sunday.

Police said two members of the group started stealing food and beverages before one of the youths threatened the employee and attempted to enter a secure area behind the counter.

“The youth allegedly left the store and returned with other members of the group, who forced their way behind the counter while a nine-year-old allegedly threatened the employee with a pair of scissors,” police media director Mark Wilton said in a statement.

“The group allegedly stole a quantity of cigarettes before fleeing the scene on foot.

“The employee suffered minor injuries to his hands, wrist and knee during the incident.”

Police said CCTV operators later observed one of the alleged offenders boarding a bus on Chung Wah Terrace and police responded by intercepting the bus and arresting a 13-year-old boy.

The second 13-year-old was located on Schombacher Circuit where he reportedly attempted to flee from police before being arrested in possession of items stolen from the store.

The first 13-year-old was charged with aggravated robbery, breach of bail, damage to property and engaging in violent conduct. The second teen was charged with aggravated robbery and engaging in violent conduct.

The nine-year-old and two others remain at large.

“Investigations remain ongoing to identify and locate the remaining alleged offenders,” Mr Wilton said.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that may assist police is urged to contact 131 444.”
