A woman was assaulted on a footpath in Malak yesterday morning, with the offender also indecently exposing himself to her, NT Police said.

NT Police director of communications Mark Wilton said in a statement that about 9am Monday police received reports that a woman aged more than 60-years of age was assaulted close to Bayfield Park in Malak while walking along the footpath.

“It is alleged the male indecently exposed himself as the incident occurred. The victim was able to get away and the offender fled the scene on foot,” Mr Wilton said.

It was not explained why police did not know how old the woman was.

The offender was described by police as being a “tanned” man of Aboriginal appearance, aged between 20 and 30-years-old, with short brown hair, a medium build and standing about 165cm tall. He was said to be wearing a khaki singlet and faded black shorts.

Police are asking anyone with information, particularly those who may have witnessed the incident or have CCTV or dashcam footage from the area around that time, to call them on 131 444 (quote reference NTP2500046492), or make an anonymous report through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report it through the Crime Stoppers website.
