Police rule out foul play in human skull discovery north of Katherine

NT Police have closed their investigation into the discovery of a human skull north of Katherine, stating that the remains were from a “historic traditional burial”.

On Wednesday, police said they were investigating the discovery of human skeletal remains at the scene after a person found a human skull Tuesday morning. They did not publicly disclose the location.

Police said they “worked closely with Heritage Officers, and the Aboriginal Areas Protection Authority and other specialist teams have been heavily involved” in attempting to determine the origin of the remains.

“Investigations indicate these remains derive from a historic traditional burial, and as such our role can be concluded,” said Acting Commander Kirsten Engels.

“Police would like to thank all of the government agencies and organisations that assisted.”

Investigations continue into the discovery of human skeletal remains found near Lee Point beach last week.
