Police Minister Brent Potter has thrown his support behind embattled Police Commissioner Michael Murphy after it was revealed at a coronial inquest on Wednesday that Mr Murphy chose not to investigate racist awards handed out by the NT Police tactical unit when he first became aware of them last year and lied to the public about his knowledge of the awards six months later.
Mr Potter, who was embroiled in his own racism scandal in March after the NT Independent revealed he shared racist, homophobic, anti-Semitic and misogynistic Facebook posts over a span of six years before being hired by the Labor Government in 2020, said he supported Mr Murphy “and the change he is creating” in the police force, adding that Mr Murphy’s actions were “commendable”.
What is regrettable is NTG ALP MLA Pottsy & Murphy’s lies & disinformation, from the playbook of 2018-23 Comm Jaimie Chalker, continues to support & advocate for a misogynistic, racist, bully boy culture where women don’t feel safe as they realise the rule of law is theatre. Women should not trust Labor with their safety in the workplace or walking in Darwin.
Look over your shoulder Murphy or you be under a bus driven by Potter when it suits.
