A gang of roughly 10 youths allegedly smashed in the front door of a restaurant on Wood Street around 2:30am Monday morning, NT Police said.

Authorities said a witness has described the youths as indigenous in appearance, aged between 14 to 20, and all were wearing dark hoodies.

The witness told the police that the group smashed the door of the restaurant to gain entry.

The matter is still under investigation including information on what has been stolen from the restaurant.

“At this stage, we’ve got to get a staff report from the owners,” NT Police Watch Commander Wayne O’Neill told ABC Radio Darwin. “We understand this target of alcohol whether or not they got anything, because the alarms went off. That remains to be seen.

“Police attended shortly after, but they’d all taken off, so if anybody has any information in relation to it, we encourage them to come forward and let us know about it and through Crimestoppers,” Cdr O’Neill said.
