NT Police are calling for the public’s help identifying potential arsonists after a vehicle fire in Katherine South on Monday morning caused the evacuation of nearby homes.

Emergency Services were called to the vehicle fire in the front unit blocks on the Victoria Highway in Katherine South just before 2am Monday morning.

Police said the fire caused significant damage to a vehicle and forced the evacuation of nearby homes, although police did not say how many people were forced out of their homes. The fire was eventually extinguished by firefighters.

Police said detectives based in Katherine were investigating but offered no descriptions of alleged suspects.

“This matter is now under investigation and detectives would like to speak with any witnesses or anyone that has relevant information,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Byron May.
