The CLP Government has spent $6.5 million on new “high-tech” tasers with increased fire power for the NT Police that will be rolled out first in Wadeye, Alice Springs and Katherine, which the Chief Minister says is “first and foremost” about “safety”.
The $6.5 million will buy 750 “next-generation Taser 10” devices that will “nearly double the firing range” of current tasers to 13.7 metres, with the new devices also able to fire 10 individual probes without needing to reload, which is more than the two probes current devices can fire.
