One of the youths involved in the fatal crash in Manton on Sunday night that resulted in the 15-year-old driver being killed and four others hospitalised, has been charged for his role in an alleged robbery committed shortly before the horrific crash, NT Police said.

Police have also released new details about the incident, including that the surviving youths involved in the crash had allegedly assaulted a passer-by who had stopped at the scene of the collision to offer help.

Police said the man was allegedly assaulted by some of the occupants of the stolen LandCruiser who attempted and failed to steal his car.

Before the crash, police allege the group assaulted a service station attendant in Adelaide River and robbed the business of small items and cash using “various makeshift weapons”.

The 14-year-old, who fronted court on Wednesday, was charged after being released from hospital with a series of offences including aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle, aggravated robbery, damage to property, recklessly endangering life and driving a motor vehicle while unlicensed.

Additional charges are expected to be laid in the coming weeks, police said. The teen has been remanded in custody and will appear again on July 15.

Another 15-year-old who was in the stolen car remains in hospital for treatment, police said, and is expected to be charged at a later date.

An 11-year-old and a nine-year-old have been released from hospital and “are yet to be formally spoken to by police”.

Police said the investigation is continuing.
