A 15-year-old male who allegedly attempted to steal a car with a group of others by threatening the driver with a knife at 7:30am after a night of breaking into properties in the northern suburbs has been arrested and charged, NT Police said, but they continue to seek others involved in the crime spree.

The incidents occurred around Casuarina and Nightcliff in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Police said that a group of youths damaged a shopping centre on Bradshaw Terrace before unlawfully entering the premises around 4:30am.

The group was then observed in a nearby car park causing damage and stealing items from another business before again fleeing the scene.

The same group was later observed in Coconut Grove at a car park on Dick Ward Drive around 7:30am.

This time, they allegedly threatened a man with an “edged weapon” in an attempt to steal his vehicle. The offenders fled after the man sounded his horn.

Detectives from Strike Force Trident identified one of the offenders who was arrested in Casuarina around noon the same day.

The 15-year-old has been charged with one count of assault with an attempt to steal; two counts of property damage; three counts of unlawful entry; two counts of stealing; and one count of trespass. He is to appear in court today.

Investigations remain ongoing.

“Police are urging anyone who has information on these incidents to make contact on 131 444. You can also make an anonymous report through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, and quote reference 9984652,” Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said.
