NT Police have failed to say why they believe people charged over drug running and bootlegging were taking the goods to a remote community, or say what NT town or city they flew from interstate into, or even specify what they were all charged with.

In a statement Senior Sergeant David Hamlyn said four individuals – their genders were not identified – aged between 27 and 41-years old were charged with unspecified offecnes and will face court on January 31, after allegedly being caught with cannabis and alcohol, which he said was being taken to a remote community in the East Arnhem Land region.

Although Snr Sgt Hamlyn did say one of those charged had an outstanding warrant, and was charged with breach of bail and bringing in liquor into a prohibited area.

Snr Sgt Hamlyn said local police were conducting routine screening of an incoming flight from Cairns when the people were allegedly caught with four 700ml bottles of alcohol, and 1.2kg of cannabis. He did not specify which individuals were accused of having what quantity of drugs or alcohol.

And, for an unexplained reason, he did not say what town or city the people were allegedly caught. It could have been Nhulunbuy, which is in East Arnhem Land, or Darwin. Both have flights from Cairns.

He also did not explain why police believe the cannabis and alcohol where being taken to a remote community.
