A Peppimenarti leader said she believes Chief Minister Eva Lawler did not make a scheduled visit to her community on Sunday because of a violent disturbance involving ram-raids of a compound that led to nurses evacuating the community to Darwin, but Ms Lawler said she postponed the visit due to other unspecified commitments in the area.
The remote community of Peppimenarti, which is about 320km from Darwin, is a regular scene of violence and is home to the Jovi Boys, an outback gang of young men named after 1980s hair glam band Bon Jovi, known for songs such as Wanted Dead or Alive.
