A pedestrian was killed overnight in Moil and the driver returned a roadside test indicating the possible presence of an illicit drug, NT Police said.

Police director of communications Mark Wilton said emergency services were called to Rothdale Road in Moil about 10.30pm on Tuesday following reports a man had been hit by a southbound vehicle.

“Police and St John Ambulance attended, but the 49-year-old pedestrian was declared dead at the scene,” Mr Wilton said.

“The driver remained at the scene and underwent roadside alcohol and drug testing.”

Mr Wilton said the driver returned a negative breath test, while the roadside drug test indicated the possible presence of illicit drugs. The driver was not arrested.

Police want anyone who witnessed the man being hit, or who has dashcam footage or other information that could assist investigators, to call 131 444 (quote reference number P26221798).
