An 18-year-old man has been arrested and will be charged with serious harm offences after cutting a security guard multiple times with a knife at Karama Shopping Plaza on Friday, NT Police said, in what they are calling a “particularly violent assault”.
Police reported that a guard was cut multiple times after being attacked by the man around 1:30pm.
The security guard was apprehending the offender before other guards assisted. Police said the injured guard administered first aid to himself before proceeding to the Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment.
The offender was arrested by police shortly after and was also taken to the same hospital after he suffered minor injuries. He remained under guard on Saturday.
“This was a particularly violent assault and it is quite frankly incredible the victim wasn’t more seriously injured,” Detective Senior Sergeant Karl Day said.
“Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to contact police on 131 444. Please quote reference 10184572,” he said.
