Two youths allegedly held up a Katherine service station, one armed with an “edged” weapon, while one of the youths is still on the run, NT Police said.

Police director of communications Mark Wilton said in a statement that about 1:40am Monday, police received reports of two youths entering a service station on Katherine Terrace, in Katherine, with one of them allegedly armed with an edged weapon, and threatening a staff member.

“The staff member was able to lock themselves inside the store, before the youth allegedly caused property damage and fled the scene,” Mr Wilton said.

Police did not give approximate ages of the two, nor did they provide descriptions, or say what the alleged “edged” weapon was, nor which one threatened the staff member.

Mr Wilton said police later found, and arrested one male youth, but gave no details, and did not say if police expected that he would charged, while he said a female youth was still on the run.

Police are asking anyone with information about the alleged armed robbery to call them on 131 444, or make an anonymous report by calling Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or make a report through the website.
