The NT Police have confirmed they are investigating Detective Senior Sergeant Wayne Newell over allegations he perverted the course of justice in his handling of the criminal murder investigation into Zach Rolfe.
The NT Independent first reported on Saturday that Mr Rolfe’s lawyers sent a letter to acting Police Commissioner Michael Murphy on Friday, in which they accused Sgt Newell of “criminal conduct”, including manipulating and withholding evidence while in a key role in the criminal investigation into Mr Rolfe’s shooting of Kuamanjayi Walker in November 2019.
